Mountain Whitewater Paddleboard Trips in Fort Collins Magazine

Standup Paddleboarding on Horsetooth Reservoir.Mountain Whitewater earned a mention in the latest issue of Fort Collins Magazine as part of a NOCO Bucket List article. The article, titled “The Official Love-Living-Here, Gotta-Do-It, Kick-A** NOCO Bucket List,” outlines 50 things to do in the Fort Collins area that should be on everyone’s bucket list. Activities on the list include visiting restaurants and breweries, wildlife viewing opportunities, arts and culture attractions, showing your Ram pride, music events, cycling opportunities and outdoor recreation options among others.

Mountain Whitewater was featured under option 14: “Paddleboard on Horsteooth Reservoir” for our guided paddleboard trips and paddleboard rentals. While whitewater rafting is still our core business, paddleboarding (also know as Standup Paddleboarding or SUP) has become a popular activity for the business as well. Paddleoarding is fun, great for fitness and provides opportunity to explore our waterways. The Cache La Poudre River also provides paddleboarding opportunities for the more the adventurous paddler. Also try our relaxing paddleboard yoga classes for another unique paddleboard activity.

Item number 47, “Rafting the Cache La Poudre River in June,” is another bucket list item that can be checked-off at Mountain Whitewater. This list item also includes a photo of one of our rafts navigating the river at Pine View Falls. Whether it by through our whitewater rafting adventures or our paddleboard offerings, we are quite happy to help folks check a couple of items off of there NOCO bucket list. Thanks to our friends at Fort Collins Magazine for mentioning our business in this entertaining and informative article.

We(a family of 5, the youngest 8) loooved our rafting experience with Mountain Whitewater! it was soo fun! We did the 1/2 day Plunge trip! Our guide, Forest, was sooo knowledgeable about the river and Colorado that it was enjoyable to talk to him…and he made us feel very safe which was great! 😉

“Perfect, exciting fun!!!”

Our guide Dave taught our group of 4 on the Ducky tour (like inflatable kayaks) how to ‘read the river’ and we all had a blast doing so!! Only one spill. Definitely worth it!!!

“Great Value, Hosts and Experience.”

This was my second rafting trip in Colorado, and turned out to be the greater experience. From a cost/value perspective the trip was 1/3 the cost of a similar full day trip, and covered twice as many river miles. Add in a nice scenic river run and a friendly and informative host (Tracey), and this made for a great day of rafting!

My husband and I did the 1/2 day trip, The Plunge. We have rafted in the past and this was by far our best experience yet! The company was very organized and everyone was genuinely friendly. Our guide, Kemper, was awesome, and made this day the highlight of our trip! A great value and love all the pictures. I highly recommend Mountain Whitewater and would request Kemper again.

“Great Experience”

We took 14 family members of our family on the 1/2 day Splash trip and had a terrific experience. The members of our group ranged in age from 13 to over 60 and everyone had a great time. Several members of the group were first timers while others had been rafting before but a good time was had by all. There was enough excitement for everyone to have fun but not so much that anyone was scared. I highly recommend this trip.

Closed for the 2012 Season

See you next year!

Thanks to all of our guests and employees for making this strange season a good one. Despite the fires, floods, drought and mudslides, we managed to make it until August 25 and were able to salvage a rafting season. Let’s all hope and prey for a big snow winter in the Colorado high country and we are excited to see everyone on the river during the 2013 season.

Our office will remain open until the end of August, but will close for the month of September. Please email ben@raftmw.com if you require assistance or need to ask questions during this time. We will open again on Monday, October 1 to begin preparations for the 2013 season.

Thanks again for choosing Mountain Whitewater!

High Park Wildfire

On June 9th a bolt of lightning started the High Park Fire near Fort Collins, Colorado. Within 24 hours the fire had grown to 10,000 acres. The fire would rage on for three weeks covering 87,284 acres and briefly held the distinction for the most destructive wildfire in Colorado history. 257 homes were lost, but more than four times that remain.

The fire spread quickly over the Cache La Poudre river canyon causing Mountain Whitewater to be closed the entire duration of the fire. Most of the employees were out of work, but we did find some temporary work for some of them around Fort Collins and several others were able to help fight the fire by shuttling firefighters across the river.

We were able to take our guests rafting yesterday for the first time in weeks and the canyon is still spectacular. Pockets of cottonwood stands glow green against hills of blackened pines. Homes surrounded by fire stand majestically erect, showing the work of those 2000 firefighters.

Hillsides of completely burnt trees sit next to untouched ones. Patches of green stand in the patches of black. Patches of black stand in the patches of green. The way fire moves through a canyon can be seen at every bend in the river. Guests and guides alike cheered happily for what remains of this canyon treasure.

Our canyon is still a beautiful, sparkling jewel of Colorado rivers. Still the only “Wild and Scenic” river in Colorado. Still the best!

THANK YOU FIREFIGHTERS

High Park Wildfire

First and foremost, THANK YOU FIREFIGHTERS!!! Today, they reported to have the High Park Fire at 100% containment, and it is all due the hard work of over 2,000 men and women who have been battling the fire since June 9th. These past few weeks have been incredibly emotional and tough, but the Fort Collins and surrounding communities have shown how amazing they truly are. From the beginning people in the community have opened up their homes and donated their time as well as necessary supplies for evacuees. There is still a long road ahead, but together we can rebuild!
